Service needs are those external problems which may play a part in both the development and the continuance of drug and alcohol abuse. These include marriage and family relationships, parenting issues, employment and job training, education, medical and mental health concerns, housing and transportation, etc. Humboldt Recovery Center offers a variety of services to our residents. Because of our many years of service, we have developed an extensive network of agencies and programs that we can call on whenever a resident asks for additional support. We work closely with local agencies to provide our residents with the help they need to move forward in life. While this can be a slow process, we are dedicated to providing on-going support long after our residents move on to independent living.
Employment and Education Humboldt Recovery Center encourages residents who are able bodied and have shown good progress in dealing with their treatment issues to seek employment. Most of our residents become employed while in residence, and are able to save a good deal of money for the future while with us. Employment services are near by, as are job training programs. Counselors are trained to assist residents in obtaining employment or training. In addition, Humboldt Recovery Center has numerous contacts in the business community, many of them with program graduates who now own their own businesses. Employment through one of these sources is always a possibility. If funding provides for full coverage, a resident will not be asked to pay an additional fee when going to work, and will be able to save much of their new income to help with the costs of transitioning back into society. Humboldt Recovery Center has assisted hundreds of men and women in learning to read, obtaining a GED, finishing high school, getting into college, and receiving job training. Our Director was a college instructor for many years, and all of our staff has gone on to further their education. We are committed to helping clients better themselves. We assist clients in applying for any educational funding for which they might be eligible. We can also arrange for transportation to and from school.
Medical and Dental Care We assist clients in obtaining the medical or dental help that they may need. We have a number of physicians and dentists who work closely with us, and refer our clients to ones who will treat them with respect and dignity.
Medications and Medical Conditions Our residents are permitted to take non-narcotic medications prescribed by a physician or psychiatrist. Medications are kept in a locked medicine cabinet and dispensed as directed by the physician, in accordance with State guidelines.
Children and Family We understand how important children and family are to happiness and well-being. Although children are not allowed to live at the program, they are allowed to visit frequently. There is a very nice neighborhood park with swings and slides right across the street from the main house that both kids and parents can enjoy. Families are encouraged to become involved with the program. As long as family members are clean, sober, and encouraging of a resident’s desire to improve, they are welcome. Family members can eat meals with us for a very small fee, and kids are free. Families are always welcome on community outings.
Drug Testing Mandatory drug and alcohol testing will be conducted at last three times per week regardless of the phase you are in. Random and/or mandatory drug testing will be conducted at Alumni Association meeting and activities. Residents are not responsible for payments due to our testing. We utilize an outside lab and all that is needed from residents are their State Medical that we help set up.
Aftercare Services and Alumni Association Upon completion of Phase Three, (or Phase Four, if it applies to you) you will be admitted into the Alumni Association. The purpose of the Alumni Association is to provide access to aftercare counseling, as well as clean and sober social and recreational activities to help you stay on track with your recovery. These are not AA or NA meetings. The Alumni Association meets throughout the week and on weekends at dates and times posted at the Main House.
